We decided to open My Sister’s Closet after asking ourselves why resale stores were always dark, dirty and dingy. Why couldn’t they look like new boutiques? We dedicated ourselves to turning the “three d’s” – dark, dirty and dingy – into the “three c’s” – cute, clean and current.

In 1991, a store was born at Town & Country shopping center in Phoenix. It was so small we considered naming it My Baby Sister’s Closet. So many customers came calling that by ’92 we had rented out a second space. Our family grew and extended its reach beyond Phoenix and into Scottsdale in 1997. Confident that what made for a great ladies resale shopping experience would translate to furniture, we launched My Sister’s Attic in 1999 and men’s apparel in 2001 with Well Suited. The latest adventure is our first My Sister’s Closet location in San Diego which opened in 2011.

Ann Siner - CEO and Founder

 

Ann began her professional career at PetSmart rising through the ranks to become Director of Advertising and then Director of Professional Services.

Ann decided to open her first designer consignment store in 1991 - a 1,200-square-foot boutique in the Town & Country plaza on Camelback Road in Phoenix. The popularity of My Sister's Closet quickly grew and has since blossomed to 14 stores in Metro Phoenix and now in San Diego including My Sister's Attic recycled home furnishings, and Well Suited designer men's apparel. Tirelessly committed to the welfare of animals, Ann volunteers with the AZ Humane Society and is an active board member. During "kitten season," she has fostered as many as 15 kittens at one time in a spare room at her home. Never one to discriminate, she's also fostered quite a few puppies. Ann's efforts as Humane Society board member and pet fosterer have not only raised awareness of the issues surrounding animal euthanasia, but have also given dozens of animals another chance at life. When she's not putting blouses on hangers and cleaning up kitty litter, Ann likes to travel to exotic destinations like Chandler, Tempe and the Antarctic.
 

Ryan Portillo - Director of Operations/Furniture Stores

 

While Ryan was born in Dallas, he proudly calls himself an Arizona native. His family relocated to Scottsdale when he was five years old and he graduated from Chaparral High School before attending Arizona State University.

Joining our family way back in 2004 - yes, three years before the iPhone came out -- Ryan has worked in every My Sister's Attic and managed three of those stores before being promoted to Director of Operations. He loves finding funky and unique original art, Mid-Century Modern curiosities, and anything with the Nike swoosh.

When not tirelessly trying to keep the sisters happy, Ryan reports to his three children - a much easier job, indeed. He's deeply committed to maintaining a balance between work, family and fitness. At least the physical kind. He is a rabid sports fan and participant — remaining loyal to his Dallas roots while still cheering for Phoenix's Valley teams.

Carlos Gipson - HR

 

If you know anything about the My Sister’s family, we like to make jokes about virtually everything. So first, we’d like to sincerely thank Carlos for his five years of service in the Army. Now that that is behind us, we heard a rumor Carlos was surprised to learn after he accepted the job that he couldn’t consign his fatigues at Well Suited. Anyway, with over 14 years of collective experience in HR, Carlos’ expertise makes our team stronger than it’s ever been before. He started his civilian career at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and points to his time there and in the military as where he learned the true meaning of honor, loyalty, dedication and commitment to his team. He also learned to do a mean catwalk during those Pittsburgh winters. A devoted husband and father, his interests include volunteering, attending live sports and spending long weekends boating around Lake Pleasant with his friends and family.

Phil Wyatt - Controller

 

A self-described accounting geek, Phil is living testament to the adage that if you love what you do for work, you never work a day in your life. Even all the way back in high school he discovered his passion for crunching numbers. He was one of those kids who knew what he wanted to do in life while the rest of us were wandering aimlessly well into our 20s.

As Eco Chic’s new controller, Phil is excited to add this newest title to the ones he cares about most. Husband, father of six, grandfather and puppy daddy to three. He thrives on the controlled chaos at home, which makes him particularly well suited (get it?) to handle the insanity around our office on a typical Tuesday.

Having earned his MBA from Grand Canyon University, Phil proudly shares how lucky he is to have worked with some great companies in the past, including California Closets most recently. When he and his wife Summer aren’t herding cats – to the best of our knowledge they don’t have any felines, yet – he enjoys playing softball, basketball, swimming and summer nights at the BBQ.
